John Gillespie Magee, Jr. (1922-1941)

John McGee was an aviator and poet. He died in 1921 when his Spitfire crashed in Lincolnshire, and is buried at Scopwick. He wrote the poem "High Flight" -

"Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;"
