Bid to uncover prehistoric Cleethorpes after rare Bronze Age trackway discovered | Cleethorpes

"Earlier this month, a rare Bronze Age trackway was discovered, as part of a coastal survey of threatened archaeological sites.

About 5m of wood was exposed by the tide and is believed to be more than 4,000 years old."

A shell of a building: Pictures inside Lindsey Lower School as it is transformed into care home | Grimsby Telegraph

A shell of a building: Pictures inside Lindsey Lower School as it is transformed into care home | Grimsby Telegraph

Cleethorpes Girls' Grammar School, later the Lindsey Lower School, has been unused for several years.  Now the building is being converted into a care home, with much of the old building retained.  these photos bring back memories.

The corridors around the courtyards with the windows removed.  When I went to the school, the windows had only just been installed.  The room with a bay window and a fire place - wasn't that Miss Vallins' study?  The gym without bars - and dancing in the gym (was the music really 78s played on a wind-up gramophone?).  Sitting on the floor in the hall.  So many memories..............

A video celebrating the first five years of the Friends of Cleethorpes Heritage.

"Thank you to Mo Whitaker for creating this superb video, which charts the first five years of Friends of Cleethorpes Heritage and also includes some wonderful old images of our favourite resort.
We've achieved a great deal since our formation in 2010 and we aim to do even more in the next five years and beyond to preserve and promote our local heritage.
The video also includes a preview of our next event, Nick Barratt's "The Forgotten Spy", on Saturday 12th September."

Sign the petition here to keep direct express train service to Manchester from Cleethorpes and Grimsby | Grimsby Telegraph

Sign the petition here to keep direct express train service to Manchester from Cleethorpes and Grimsby | Grimsby Telegraph

The present train service between Cleethorpes and Manchester Airport is (except when the staff are on strike or the line is affected by a landslip!) excellent.  There is an hourly service on a comfortable and fast train from Cleethorpes to Doncaster, and regular connections to London.  But if the service was replaced by a stopping service from Cleethorpes to Doncaster or Sheffield (perhaps single carriage like the train from Grimsby to Lincoln) - many people would be put off coming here.

Save the train service to Cleethorpes!

JD Wetherspoon buys Cleethorpes' Amishi nightclub and creates jobs

JD Wetherspoon buys Cleethorpes' Amishi nightclub and creates jobs | Grimsby Telegraph

Good news that there is investment in Cleethorpes.  Better news would be an end to the violence that is often reported in the High Street area.  I had been hoping that Wetherspoon would take over the old Dolphin Hotel which is looking very run down.
